Dental Diagnostics & Prevention

Generally, the earlier a dental issue is picked up the more options you will have in terms of treatment for restoring the oral health of your mouth as well as overall health, and the cheaper those options will typically be.

Our dentists use a mixture of time-tested diagnostic methods, and the latest advances in diagnostic cameras and digital x-ray technology.

Did you know?

The mouth can offer clues about your overall health. Problems in your mouth can affect the rest of your body or indicate other underlying health issues.

Preventing dental issues before they happen

Regular trips to the dentist are an important aspect of dental diagnostics and preventing dental issues before they can develop. We recommend that patients typically visit us every six months, at least to see the dental hygienist. Depending on your overall dental health, this can change and sometimes visits to the dentist can be annual and your dentist will chat with you about the frequency of your visits when you see them.

Whilst we typically associate dental issues specifically with our teeth but dental problems are just one aspect of our overall oral health. Cleaning your teeth, flossing, and using a mouthwash are all ways you can improve your overall oral health and prevent issues from developing.

Poor oral health is linked with...

  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Pregnancy & birth issues

Always breaking or chipping fillings?

We frequently see undiagnosed clenching and grinding in patients who have had years of patch-up work with fillings that continue to pop off and break. Addressing the underlying causes of the way the teeth come together is important to stop the cycle of tooth destruction and for the long-term benefit of the mouth and the body. Undiagnosed clenching and grinding can result in split teeth having to be removed, jaw issues, headaches and even spasms in the arms!

If you are worried about your oral health or you need advice and guidance, our team at Hamilton Dental Centre are always on hand to help you to diagnose any potential issues and come up with solutions to help to prevent any issues before they develop.
